Improperly transporting and traveling with product, for example, is an easy way to get in trouble with the law despite following other rules. Driving with Cannabis in Washington 

Many people are surprised to learn that they can’t just put products anywhere in their cars at any time. There are specific laws about the placement of products after they’ve been purchased and are on their way home. 

Here’s what Washington’s Liquor and Cannabis Board has to say about transporting cannabis products in a car:

• “Cannabis in your vehicle must be kept in either the trunk, or, if the vehicle doesn’t have a trunk, in an area not occupied or accessible by the driver or passengers. The glove compartment is not an acceptable storage area.

• Cannabis in your vehicle must be: in the original container in which it was bought, have an unbroken seal, and it may not be in any container that has been opened.”

If you have a habit of transferring your legally purchased cannabis into different jars or containers, know that you cannot legally transport those containers in your vehicle because they no longer are in their original packaging. 

For those stocking up on weed near Snoqualmie Falls or other tourist destinations, it’s important to put purchased product in the trunk or an area inaccessible to both drivers and passengers. 

Driving Out of State with Cannabis 

Even if you’re just passing through the North Bend area on your way to another state with legal weed, you can’t bring products with you. It’s illegal to cross state lines with cannabis from a different state, even if both states have legal programs. 

Whether you’re here for a stay at the Snoqualmie Resort Casino, hitting the slopes at the nearby Summit at Snoqualmie, or just passing through on a road trip, you can’t bring your goodies to the next destination if it’s out of state. Instead, you’ll have to find another weed store when you cross into the next state. 

Can I Fly With Cannabis in Washington?

Just like you can’t drive from state to state with legal cannabis, you can’t fly anywhere with legal weed–even if you’re flying to another state with legal access. 

Here’s what the Transportation Safety Administration has to say about traveling with cannabis:

“TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer.”

While agents may not search for cannabis, if you are caught traveling with it, you may face legal consequences. 

Where Can I Smoke Cannabis While Traveling?

In Washington, cannabis consumption is only fully protected in private residences so long as the property owner gives permission. If you’re on a private property where cannabis consumption is banned, it is illegal to consume it, despite recreational laws. 

It’s illegal to consume cannabis in view of the public, too. Streets, sidewalks, federal and state parks, and public trails are all off limits for cannabis consumption because you can be seen by the public.

You may be able to smoke cannabis in your hotel, depending on the specific site’s rules. Smoking cannabis is subject to the same Washington Smoking in Public Places Law, which prohibits smoking in public places or in one’s place of employment. 

But if your hotel allows cannabis and you have a room that permits smoking, you may be free to consume cannabis.
